Position: Development Officer

Salary: Up to £25,000 based on experience

Flexible: Flexible location but predominant geographical areas to be covered are Essex and Sussex. Travel to the Head Office in Melton Mowbray will also be required.

Contract: This post is on a fixed term basis until 31st March 2015 and is subject to annual confirmation of funding award thereafter. In the event that the funding is withdrawn / reduced before the fixed term period expires, your contract of employment will / may be terminated with one month’s written notice.

The Bowls Development Alliance (BDA) is an organisation which has been created to lead on the development of the sport of Bowls through the clubs, counties and coaches in England. Working in partnership with Bowls England (BE) and the English Indoor Bowling Association Ltd (EIBA) the BDA aims to raise the profile of bowls by increasing participation and satisfaction levels of those playing the sport aged 55 and over.

Bowls is a popular sport with low barriers to entry and opportunities to participate throughout the year. It is a sport that people of all ages and abilities can actively enjoy recreationally through to elite competition .There are currently 400,000 club members in over 7,500 venues playing bowls.

The BDA is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and highly organised individual to help deliver the four year “Growing the Sport of Bowls 13-17" plan for the development of Bowls and take lead responsibility on the successful delivery of our 16+ disability participation target. This is an exciting opportunity with significant potential for the role to develop as the organisation matures. The Development Officer will deliver the outcomes of the new plan working with identified County Sport Partnerships, Leisure Contractors, County Associations and local clubs.

Applicants will be expected to have some experience of sports development, including working with disabled participants and will need to demonstrate a good understanding of the sporting landscape including local delivery. Knowledge of bowls would be an advantage, but is not essential.
