 National Championship Finals

National Pairs Championship 1999/2000
played at Melton Mowbray from 4th to 7th April 2000

The Final was played on Friday afternoon between Cyphers (Paul Butcher & Martyn Secker) and Whiteknights (Mark Bantock & Robert Newman). Whiteknights took an early lead, after four ends  the score stood at 10-2, and after seven ends had extended to 14-2. In the next ten ends, Cyphers picked up three 4's to reduce the deficit 17-22. Going into the last end Whiteknights, who by then had a lead of only one shot, succeeded in taking a two to Win the Pairs Championship 24-21.

The First Round had started on Tuesday evening saw the start to the First Round, with Robert Newman of Whiteknights playing his third game of the day, having earlier played his Quarter and Semi-Final of the Triples. He was to be busy again on Wednesday, with his Triples Final at 2.30pm, and the Second round of the Pairs at 6.30 p.m., after Whiteknights beat Wey Valley  21-11.

Cheshunt took a 4 on the 18th end to head off a recovery from Leicester, eventually wining 23-21. Preston needed a 5 on the 16th end to seal their game against Perdiswell.

Wednesday morning saw the final First Round games, with Dorchester needing an extra end to beat Isis, and Hull & District taking the last three ends to beat Bridgwater BCL.

In the Second Round games there were comfortable wins for Wymondham Dell, Stanley, Torquay, Cyphers & Whiteknights.

In the Quarter Finals, Torquay & Stanley pulled away in the last third of their games, whilst Cyphers had to wait until the last end so that they could join Whiteknights  in the Semi-Finals.

Whiteknights and Cyphers had easy wins in the Semi-Finals.
