NEW EARSWICK INDOOR BOWLS CLUB WINS AWARD

On Tuesday night, New Earswick and District Indoor Bowls Club won the coveted Community Amateur Sport Club of the Year Award Award at the Sport and Recreation Alliance’s national awards ceremony. Awarded by the Alliance to sports clubs who have made an outstanding contribution to their community, New Earswick and District Indoor Bowls Club received their trophy and £2,500 cheque from cricketing legend and Strictly Come Dancing star Mark Ramprakash.
The Sport and Recreation Alliance, in association with the Foundation for Sports and the Arts (FSA), is proud to host the ceremony, held last night in St Paul’s, London, to celebrate the outstanding commitment and dedication of the finalists in making sport accessible to all.

Tim Lamb, chief executive of the Alliance said:
“The Sports Club of the Year Award is something that we have hosted for many years to congratulate and celebrate our community sports clubs. The nominees and winners just keep getting better and better, and it is inspiring to see, in these straightened economic times, clubs run by volunteers going from strength to strength. We hear a lot about the Big Society - you need to look no further New Earswick and District Indoor Bowls Club to see the very definition of it.
“New Earswick and District Indoor Bowls Club welcomes competitive players, social members and offers a range of activities for players with physical or learning disabilities. They open their club to the community offering not only bowls but also a range of indoor sports. They also support 18 athletes at the Special Olympics and encourage all to play at the highest level that they wish to. They are a shining example of a club continually striving to provide the best for its members and the wider community ”

Mark Ramprakash said:
“As a professional sportsman I know that getting paid to do something you love is easy. Doing the day job and then giving up evenings and weekends to volunteer at your sports club is truly admirable. It is thanks to the volunteers that this country has such a love for participating in sports. Without them, there would be no clubs, and there would be no sporting stars of the future.
“New Earswick and District Indoor Bowls Club is a club which makes provision for everyone to enjoy their sport, with full and social members. With 18 athletes participating in the Special Olympics as well as members having access to other sessions in order to keep fit and healthy they truly do provide something for everyone.”
