Think a retirement apartment is not for you? Think again!

William Lodge in Malmesbury, Wiltshire

Churchill Retirement Living specialises exclusively in the development of purpose built apartments for those looking for an independent yet safe and secure lifestyle in their retirement. A brand new Churchill apartment is safe, energy efficient and low maintenance, with a Lodge Manager to keep an eye on things and like-minded neighbours to socialise with. Each apartment is completely self-contained with its own front door, providing you with privacy and peace and quiet when you want it.

You might have many reasons for wanting to downsize, whether it’s wanting to be closer to relatives, being closer to the heart of town, or leaving behind the hassle of maintaining a larger home. More and more people are looking to make the transition to a manageable property. If this sounds like you, don’t be put off by some of the common myths surrounding retirement living. Here are some of the biggest misconceptions busted...

PETS
Would I have to find a new home for my pet?

Of course not, dogs, cats or caged birds are welcome in all Churchill apartments.

CAR PARKING
Won't I have to give up my car?

No, all developments have free car parking for Owners and you will never be forced to give up your car. Churchill understand that for many people the car is a symbol of independence and it’s hard to imagine life without it. What they often find though, is that after moving into a Churchill development in the heart of town, near to all amenities, as well as public transport links, many of the Owners find that they can continue to lead an active and independent lifestyle without the hassle and expense of running a car.

THE MOVE
Won’t moving be too difficult and take too long?

It may seem that moving is a lot of hassle and selling your home can take a long time. However, there is a lot of help available, and with their Selling Made Easy and Home Exchange services Churchill can hold your hand every step of the way, and even help you downsize.

THE MANAGEMENT COMPANY
Won’t I be hit with expensive service charges from the management company?

As with any leasehold property, you will pay ground rent and a monthly service charge which covers a lot of things. This includes all the maintenance, heating in your own apartment (on selected developments), water and sewerage charges, buildings insurance, the services of a Lodge Manager and 24 hour call alarm monitoring. The difference with Churchill’s management company, Millstream Management Services (MMS), is that it was set up by Churchill to manage all their developments, enabling Churchill to work together to provide the best possible service and value for money for Owners. Service charges are tightly controlled and reviewed each year, and Owners are consulted on this to ensure everything is done openly and fairly.

RESELLING YOUR APARTMENT
Don’t retirement developers charge a big exit fee when it comes to selling my apartment?

Unlike some developers, Churchill does not charge exit fees. On resale, 1% of your apartment’s gross sale price, or open market value if subletting, is payable by way of a contribution to the development’s contingency fund. This money does not go to Churchill or MMS, but is held in trust on behalf of the development’s Owners, to go towards the cost of any long term repairs that may be needed over time.
